The HC-SR04 is an ultrasonic distance sensor used in robotics for obstacle avoidance and depth sensing. It works like sonar, emitting a high-frequency sound wave from one cylinder and measuring the time it takes for the echo to bounce back to the second cylinder. It operates on 5V, can detect objects from 2 to 400 centimeters away, and connects to two digital pins on a microcontroller to calculate distance based on the speed of sound.
